Why a competitor analysis comes first

LinkedIn is the most expensive ad platform per click for most B2B companies. Your buyers see the ads of your competitors in the same feed, often in the same week. If three of them push the same message, the fourth ad with that message gets ignored and you pay for it anyway.

Most companies start LinkedIn ads from the inside out. They write about their product and hope it lands. We start from the outside in. First we look at what your buyers already see from your competitors. Then we look at what you run yourself. The gap between the two tells you where your first campaign has the best chance.

The analysis answers questions like these.

  • Which competitors advertise on LinkedIn at all, and how actively?
  • Which messages and offers does everybody in your market use? Where is the white space?
  • Which formats do they use: single image, document, video, carousel or conversation ads?
  • Which ads have been running for months? Advertisers rarely keep an ad live that does nothing for them.
  • Which countries and languages do they target?
  • How do your own ads compare, and what would we change first?

What we analyse

The analysis has three parts. Each part ends with conclusions you can act on, even if you never work with us.

01

Your competitors

Who competes for the same buyers on LinkedIn, and who of them really advertises.

02

Their ads

What they say, what they offer, which formats they use and how long each ad runs.

03

Your own ads

What you run today, what you ran before, and how it holds up against your market.

Part 1 · Your competitive landscape

We start with a longlist. It holds the competitors you name, the companies your buyers compare you with, and the advertisers we find on LinkedIn around your topics. Together we bring that back to a maximum of eight. We pick the most important ones, not as many as possible. Eight well-chosen competitors tell you more than twenty random ones.

How we choose the eight

  • Direct competitors that sell the same thing to the same buyers.
  • Alternatives your buyers consider instead of you, such as a bigger platform or a consultancy.
  • Attention competitors that target the same job titles with a different offer. They make the feed more expensive for you.
  • Role models from a neighbouring market, when nobody in your own niche advertises well yet.

What you see in the report

  • A landscape overview of all eight, with how active each one is on LinkedIn.
  • Per competitor, how they position themselves in their ads.
  • The countries and languages they show ads in, where the Ad Library shows it.

Part 2 · Their ads, one by one

We collect the ads of your competitors from the LinkedIn Ad Library. That is LinkedIn's own public archive of ads. We store each ad with its image and text, so you can see exactly what your buyers saw. Then we analyse them on these points.

We look atWhat it tells you
Message and angleWhich pain, promise or proof they lead with. Where the whole market says the same thing.
Offer and call to actionDemo, trial, e-book, webinar, event or plain awareness. How hard they push for a lead.
Format mixSingle image, document, video, carousel, text or conversation ads. What they invest in.
Run time per adFirst and last date an ad was seen. Long-running ads are the ones worth studying.
Volume and refreshHow many ads they run and how often they change them.
Countries and languagesWhich markets they push, and whether they translate or run English everywhere.
Visual styleProduct shots, people, data, memes. What stands out in the feed and what blends in.
Targeting and reachFor ads shown in the EU, the Ad Library adds targeting parameters and impression ranges. We use them where they are available.

We calculate the run time per ad. We never add up run times across ads, and we never guess a budget. The Ad Library does not show what an advertiser spends, so we do not pretend to know it.

The message matrix

The core of this part is one table. It puts every competitor next to the messages and offers they use. You see at a glance which claims are crowded and which ones nobody owns. That is usually where your first campaign should go.

Part 3 · Your own ads

We review all your existing ads and your earlier campaigns. With read access to your Campaign Manager we also look at how your account is set up. You keep full ownership of your account. We only look.

We check your ads against the market picture from part 2, and your account against the five leaks we find in almost every B2B account.

  1. Overlapping audiences that compete with each other for the same budget.
  2. Too much weight on uploaded lists, without LinkedIn's own targeting on job function, seniority, industry and skills.
  3. No retargeting between campaigns, so warm visitors never see a next step.
  4. Bottom-funnel ads in low-intent periods, when buyers are not ready and clicks are expensive.
  5. An Insight Tag without real conversion tracking, so nobody knows which ads bring leads.

You get a clear list of what we would keep, what we would stop and what we would build first.

What you get

The PDF report

  • A one-page summary with the main conclusions.
  • The landscape of your eight competitors and their activity on LinkedIn.
  • A profile per competitor, with examples of their ads.
  • The message matrix, with the crowded claims and the open ones.
  • An overview of formats, run times and countries per competitor.
  • The review of your own ads and account.
  • Concrete recommendations for your next campaigns, in order of priority.

One hour with an ad specialist

A report alone leaves questions. So one of our ad specialists takes you through it in a one-hour video call. Our team worked at LinkedIn and helped its biggest advertisers. They explain what they see, why it matters and what they would do in your place. Bring your marketing lead, your sales lead or both.

How it works

  1. Book a callA free 30-minute call to see if the analysis makes sense for you. No pitch.
  2. Sign the intakeYou get one proposal. It holds the intake to sign and the retainer as an option for later.
  3. Choose the competitorsWe send a longlist. Together we pick up to eight.
  4. Give us accessRead access to your Campaign Manager, if you want your account reviewed as well.
  5. We do the researchWe collect and analyse the ads of your competitors and your own.
  6. You get the reportThe PDF report lands in your inbox.
  7. The walkthroughOne hour with an ad specialist. You leave with a clear first campaign plan.
  8. You decideRun the plan yourself, or start a retainer within 90 days and get the €750 back on your first month.

Price and credit

The intake costs €750 once, excluding VAT. The amount covers the time we put into the research. It is not a lead magnet, and we do not give it away.

If you start a monthly retainer within 90 days after the intake, we deduct the €750 from your first month. That works for every package.

PackageFirst month after the intakeEvery month after that
Starter€1,000€1,750
Growth€1,750€2,500
Pro€2,750€3,500

After 90 days the credit ends. You paid for work that was delivered, so there is nothing to settle. The retainer proposal stays open for those 90 days and we remind you before the window closes.

Want to skip the research and start right away? You can. Then you start the retainer at the full monthly price and skip the intake. See pricing for what each package includes.

All prices exclude VAT. TriAds works for businesses only. For clients outside Bulgaria the VAT is reverse charged.

What the data cannot tell you

We are honest about the limits of competitor research on LinkedIn. It makes the report more useful.

  • No spend. The Ad Library does not show budgets. We never estimate how much a competitor spends.
  • No results. It does not show clicks, leads or sales. A long-running ad is a signal. It proves nothing on its own.
  • "Last seen" is not "stopped". The Ad Library reports with a delay. We write down the date and leave the conclusion open.
  • Targeting only in part. Targeting parameters and impression ranges appear only for ads shown in the EU, and only as broad ranges.
  • Only what they run on LinkedIn. Ads on Google or Meta are outside the scope.

Where we do not know something, the report says so. That keeps your decisions on solid ground.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

What is the TriAds intake analysis?

It is a complete LinkedIn competitor analysis. We map up to eight of your most important competitors, analyse their LinkedIn ads and review all your own ads. You get a PDF report and a one-hour walkthrough with an ad specialist.

How much does the competitor analysis cost?

€750 once, excluding VAT. If you start a monthly retainer within 90 days, we deduct the €750 from your first month.

How many competitors do you analyse?

Up to eight. We choose them together with you and pick the ones that matter most for your buyers, not as many as possible.

Where does the data come from?

From the LinkedIn Ad Library, LinkedIn's public archive of ads, and from your own ad account if you give us read access.

Can you see how much my competitors spend?

No. The LinkedIn Ad Library does not show spend, clicks or leads. We never estimate a competitor's budget. We show what they run, how long each ad runs and where.

Do I need to give access to my ad account?

Only if you want your account reviewed as well. Read access to Campaign Manager is enough. You stay the owner and can revoke it at any time.

What do I receive at the end?

A PDF report with the landscape, a profile per competitor, the message matrix, your own ad review and prioritised recommendations. Plus a one-hour video call with one of our ad specialists.

Is the intake the same as the free 30-minute call?

No. The free call is a first look at your account. The intake is paid research into up to eight competitors, with a written report and a walkthrough.

What happens after the intake?

You decide. Use the plan yourself, or start a retainer. The retainer proposal stays open for 90 days, and within that window the €750 is deducted from your first month.

Can I skip the intake and start right away?

Yes. Then you start a retainer at the full monthly price. The intake is for companies that want the research first.

Do you work with companies outside the Netherlands?

Yes. We work for B2B companies across Europe and analyse competitors in any country where they run LinkedIn ads.

Do you promise results?

No. Nobody can honestly promise leads or a cost per lead in advance. We promise a thorough analysis, clear conclusions and full transparency about what the data can and cannot tell.
